3. Dishcloths and sponges
If you own a dishcloth, rag, sponge, or any other type of cloth, new or used, never store it under the sink, as this damp, dark, and enclosed space is ideal for the growth of germs and bacteria. These items, due to their highly absorbent composition, would quickly become contaminated and their use would be dangerous (so always remember to disinfect them thoroughly). Only sponges and dishcloths that are still sealed in their packaging and have never been opened or used should be left in the sink cabinet.
4. Dishwasher tablets and detergents.
Storing dishwasher detergents and tablets in the cupboard under the sink is a no-brainer, as this appliance is located right next to the sink in most kitchens. Note: they are new and unopened, but if they have already been opened, they will deteriorate quickly due to the humidity. Furthermore, if you have children or pets, these products may be placed at their height and dangerously accessible.
5. Potatoes, onions, and other foods.
The problem is always humidity: products like potatoes and onions, flour, and even salt are very sensitive to moisture. While they need a dark place, they must also be protected from heat and humidity. Stored under the sink, they would rot quickly; it is best to keep them in a cellar or, failing that, in a cupboard, away from light, heat, and humidity.
